Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Ferdinand VII facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curling hair bound by a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the nape. The royal effigy occupies the central field, with the circumferential legend reading FERDIN • VII • D • G • HISP • ET IND • R • arranged around the periphery, and the date 1817 positioned in the exergue below the portrait. The coin is struck within a reeded border, characteristic of milled Spanish colonial gold coinage of the period.
