| Obverse description | Quartered royal arms of Castile and León with central escutcheon, surmounted by an ornate royal crown, all within a beaded inner circle. The shield displays the characteristic quarterings of Castile (castle), León (lion), Aragon (pales), and Granada (pomegranate) with the Portugal escutcheon at center. The denomination numeral II appears to the right of the shield, with the assayer initial and mint mark flanking the shield to the left and below. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads the king's name and titles. |
