| Obverse description | Armored bust of King Carlos III facing right, rendered in the neoclassical colonial style, with the monarch's hair dressed and tied at the nape. The legend CAROL III D G HISP ET IND R encircles the effigy along the periphery, interrupted at the base by the date, here shown as 1773, flanked by pellets. A finely reeded border frames the entire design. The portrait exhibits the characteristic broad, slightly idealized features associated with the Santiago Mint's engraving workshop of this period. |
