Obverse description Centrally placed crowned shield bearing the Bernese bear passant on a diagonally striped field, the bear facing sinister. The shield is surmounted by an elaborate archducal crown and flanked below by two crossed olive branches. The circular legend RESPVBLICA BERNENSIS runs along the periphery, divided by the crown above and the crossed sprigs below. The design is executed in high relief with fine milled edge visible at the coin's border.
