Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of Bern — a diagonal band with a walking bear passant — surmounted by a large princely crown rendered in high relief. The shield is flanked below by two crossed olive or laurel sprigs, lending a classical heraldic character to the composition. The circumferential legend RESPUBLICA BERNENSIS runs along the periphery in upright Latin capitals, divided left and right of the shield. The coin's milled edge is clearly visible, and the overall engraving style reflects the refined late-18th-century Swiss die-cutting tradition.
