Obverse description Central device depicts the Czechoslovak state coat of arms — a shield bearing the heraldic Bohemian lion rampant with a double tail — set within a slightly raised rectangular frame. A five-pointed star appears above the shield at the top of the field. The circular legend surrounding the design reads ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ SOCIALISTICKÁ REPUBLIKA, divided by the date 1978 positioned in the lower portion of the field below the shield. The lettering is rendered in upright Latin characters evenly spaced around the periphery.
