Obverse description A wild man (Wilden Mann), the heraldic supporter of Lucerne, is depicted seated beneath a tree in the left field, his body turned left while his bearded face gazes right. In his raised right hand he brandishes an upright sword, while his left arm supports an escutcheon bearing the quartered coat of arms of Lucerne. The figure is rendered with fine engraving typical of late 17th-century Swiss coinage. The circumferential legend, interrupted by cross stops, reads MONETA + NOVA + LVCERNENSIS + 1695 +, establishing the coin's identity and date of issue.
