| Reverse description | Quartered heraldic shield of the Bishopric of Passau occupying the central field, displaying the arms of the see: a rampant lion in the upper left and lower right quarters, and the Bavarian lozengy pattern (fusily) in the upper right and lower left quarters. The shield is surrounded by an ornamental laurel or foliate wreath. The circumferential Latin legend DOMINVS REFVGIVM MEVM (The Lord is my refuge) frames the composition, punctuated by small ornamental stops. The overall design is characteristic of the high German Renaissance ecclesiastical coinage tradition, with the heraldic elements rendered in fine hammered relief. |
