| Obverse description | The Hamburg city arms — a white castellated triple-towered gate on a red field — displayed at center within an ornate rococo-styled oval cartouche with scrolling foliate flourishes. The arms are surmounted by a small imperial crown. A circular legend surrounds the cartouche in Latin capitals, with mint-master initials IHL positioned in the lower portion of the field. The overall design exhibits the refined baroque engraving style characteristic of early eighteenth-century Hamburg coinage. |
