| Obverse description | Central field displays the arms of Ulm — a baroque cartouche with ornate scrollwork surrounds a shield whose upper portion bears a diaper (crosshatched) pattern with pellets at the intersections, surmounted by the city name ULM in raised letters. The date 17-17 is divided across the lower flanks of the cartouche. A circular legend in German runs along the periphery, separated from the inner design by a beaded border. |

Ulm struck this piece in 1717 to mark the bicentennial of the Reformation — the two-hundredth anniversary of Luther's posting of the Ninety-Five Theses. As a Free Imperial City with a proudly Protestant civic identity, Ulm had particular reason to commemorate the occasion formally. The denomination is nominal; this was never intended for circulation, and the silver fabric is a deliberate departure from the gold issues it mimics in weight class.
Nau lists it under his Reformation Jubiläum sequence, with Binder recording at least two die variants at 155 and 156.
