| Obverse description | Full-length armored effigy of Emperor Matthias II standing facing right, holding an imperial scepter in his right hand and an orb in his left. The figure is flanked on either side by heraldic shields: the arms of Hungary to the left and the arms of Bohemia to the right. The emperor wears full plate armor with a prominent ruff collar, and the composition is rendered in the robust Germanic Renaissance style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Viennese coinage. The encircling Latin legend reads MATTHIAS II D G R I S AVG G H BO REX. |

| Reverse description | Crowned double-headed imperial eagle displayed, with wings spread, bearing on its breast a large ornate quartered shield of the Habsburg hereditary lands, including the arms of Austria, Burgundy, and Tyrol among others. The imperial crown surmounts the eagle's two heads, and the overall design is deeply struck with fine detail typical of Viennese hammer-struck gold coinage of the period. The date 1616 appears in the upper portion of the legend. The encircling Latin legend reads ARCHID AVST DVX BVR COM TYR. |
