Obverse description Full-length armored effigy of Emperor Matthias II standing facing right, holding an imperial scepter in his right hand and an orb in his left. The figure is flanked on either side by heraldic shields: the arms of Hungary to the left and the arms of Bohemia to the right. The emperor wears full plate armor with a prominent ruff collar, and the composition is rendered in the robust Germanic Renaissance style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Viennese coinage. The encircling Latin legend reads MATTHIAS II D G R I S AVG G H BO REX.
