Obverse description A rectangular tablet with an ornate decorative frame, featuring elaborate foliate scrollwork at the corners and along the borders, encloses a five-line Latin inscription in the field. The tablet is centrally positioned on the flan, with the intricate surrounding ornamentation characteristic of Dutch Imperial city coinage of the mid-17th century. The lettering is bold and deeply struck within the panel, reading MO NOV AVREA CIVITA IMPER DAVENT, identifying this as a new gold coinage of the Imperial City of Deventer.
