| Obverse description | Bust of Giovanni II Bentivoglio facing left in high relief, depicted in the Renaissance portrait style wearing a flat cap and draped garment with long flowing hair falling behind the neck. The effigy is rendered with fine engraved detail characteristic of late 15th-century Italian medallic art. A beaded inner border separates the portrait from the circumscribed Latin legend in the outer field. The inscription IOANNES BENTIVOLVS II BONONIENSIS reads around the periphery, identifying the sitter as the lord of Bologna. |
