| Reverse description | St. Rupert, patron saint of Salzburg, is depicted enthroned in three-quarter or frontal view, holding a salt cellar or salt box in his right hand — symbolic of the salt trade that enriched the archbishopric — and a crozier in his left hand as emblem of his episcopal office. The saint is rendered in episcopal vestments in the Baroque style characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century Salzburg coinage. The encircling Latin legend, commencing at the 12 o'clock position, reads SANCTVS RVDBERTVS EPS SALISB followed by the date 1662, all within a beaded border. |
