Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Marquis Guglielmo IX Paleologo facing left, rendered in high relief in the Italian Renaissance manner, with finely engraved long hair falling to the shoulder and a draped mantle. The portrait is bold and naturalistic, occupying the central field. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery between an inner and outer beaded border, reading GVLIELMVS MAR MON F, identifying the ruler as Guglielmo, Marquis of Montferrat.
