Reverse description The reverse features a decorative flaming altar or cippus set upon a stepped rectangular plinth, its upper surface surmounted by a vigorously rendered flame rising from a torch or brazier. The body of the altar is adorned with two oval armorial shields — that of France on the left and that of Saxony-Poland on the right — joined together and framed by elaborate foliate and scrollwork decoration in the Baroque manner. The arc legend AMOR MUTUUS. (meaning 'Mutual Love') is inscribed along the upper periphery in Roman capitals, serving as the motto of the dynastic marriage. A finely milled border encircles the entire design, consistent with the obverse treatment.
