Obverse description The Hamburg city arms — a white castle with three towers on a red field — occupies the central shield, flanked by elaborate Rococo scrollwork and foliate mantling that frames the composition with characteristic mid-18th-century decorative exuberance. The shield is surmounted by a large shell-form crest finial, with two additional smaller crowns or crests flanking it at the sides. A tied laurel wreath closes the composition at the base. The circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, interrupted at the lower field by the engraver's initials I·H·L·, and the date appears at the top of the legend.
