| Obverse description | Facing confronted busts of Ferdinand and Isabella, both crowned and draped, presented in profile facing one another at center. Ferdinand faces right and Isabella faces left, their effigies rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of late 16th-century hammered gold coinage. A small ornament appears between the two busts in the lower field. The surrounding Latin legend reads DV · R · P · IMP · CAMP · VA · FERDINAN · ET · ELISAB, separated from the central types by a beaded inner circle. |
