Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Matthias II facing right, wearing an imperial crown and ornate armor with decorative collar visible at the truncation. The effigy is rendered in a bold, high-relief hammered style characteristic of early 17th-century German gold coinage. The circumferential legend reads MATTHIAS II D G ROM IMP SEMP AVG HVN BOH REX, incorporating the date 1612 and the coronation date 24 IVNI within the inscription. The portrait displays strong individualized features with curled hair and a prominent beard, consistent with contemporary representations of the emperor.
