Additional information

Anselm Casimir Wamboldt von Umstadt became Archbishop-Elector of Mainz in 1629, inheriting a see already being torn apart by the Thirty Years' War. Mainz itself fell to Swedish forces under Gustav Adolf in late 1631 and remained occupied until 1636, during which time the archbishop governed largely in exile. Coinage from his tenure is consequently irregular in both volume and continuity — this 1642 double ducat dates to the final years of his reign, just two years before his death ended the line.
