Reverse description The reverse displays a five-line Latin inscription contained within a square tablet framed by an elaborate baroque cartouche of acanthus scrollwork, shell motifs, and foliate ornaments at the corners and along all four sides. The tablet is rendered with a double-ruled inner border, and the surrounding decorative frame is richly detailed with symmetrically placed scallop shells at the top, bottom, and sides. The inscription, set in bold Roman capitals, reads across five lines and identifies the coin as the currency of the federated provinces struck in accordance with imperial law. The overall composition is characteristic of Dutch Republic gold coinage of the eighteenth century.
