| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Alfonso I d'Este, Duke of Ferrara, facing left with long flowing hair falling to the shoulder, wearing armour with elaborate pauldron detail visible at the truncation. The portrait is rendered in a vigorous Renaissance style with strong relief. The circular Latin legend reads ALFONSVS DVX FERRARIAE III, denoting Alfonso as the third Duke of Ferrara, interrupted by pellet stops and running along the entire inner border of the coin. |
