Additional information

Hamburg's status as a Free City came under direct pressure during this period — Napoleon formally annexed the city in 1810, ending centuries of municipal autonomy. The 1808–1810 window represents the last gasp of independent Hamburg coinage before French imperial administration took over the mint entirely. Pieces dated to this narrow range were struck in diminishing quantities as French control tightened.

Gaedechens 79 is the standard reference for Hamburg gold of this type, and collector pressure on this issue remains consistently high relative to surviving population.
