The 1967 Greek pattern series emerged in the months surrounding the April coup that brought the military junta to power. This piece was part of an ambitious coinage redesign program initiated under the collapsing civilian government — work that the colonels ultimately shelved in favor of their own iconographic agenda. Few pattern strikes from this transitional moment reached circulation planning, and fewer still were documented with consistent provenance before the junta reorganized the mint's administrative records.
