A scroll below the shield bears the motto ΣΧΥΣ ΜΟΥ Η ΑΓΑΠΗ ΤΟΥ ΛΑΟΥ. The legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ curves along the upper periphery, and ΔΙΔΡΑΧΜΟΝ appears in the lower exergue.
