Obverse description Armored and high-collared bust of Philip II, King of Spain, facing right, rendered in the Renaissance portrait style characteristic of Milanese coinage of the period. The effigy displays the monarch in elaborate plate armor with a prominent ruffled collar, his hair closely cropped. The circular Latin legend PHILIPPVS REX HISPANIAR runs along the periphery, enclosed within a beaded inner border.

Reverse description Quartered heraldic shield surmounted by an imperial crown, displaying the four-fold arms of the Duchy of Milan: in the first quarter a castle (Castile), in the second the Visconti biscione (a serpent devouring a child), in the third an eagle displayed (imperial eagle), and in the fourth a lion passant (Leon). The circular Latin legend MEDIOLANI DVX surrounds the shield, separated by a beaded border from the irregular coin edge.
