Obverse description Draped bust of Ferdinando I Gonzaga facing left, wearing cardinal's robes with a richly decorated collar and a biretta; the effigy displays finely rendered hair curling beneath the hat. The encircling Latin legend runs along the outer border, and the mintmaster's initials GASP M F appear in the lower field beneath the bust. The portrait is executed in a high-relief Renaissance style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Mantuan coinage.
