| Reverse description | A stylised coiled snake is depicted in the centre of the annular sector-shaped field, rendered in fine relief with detailed scales and a sinuous form. The Gregorian year '1989' appears in the upper portion of the field, referencing the corresponding Chinese zodiac Year of the Snake. The Chinese cyclical year characters '己巳' are inscribed in the lower left of the field, and the denomination '$2' appears in the lower right. The overall design is clean and minimalist, with ample open field surrounding the central snake motif. |

| Additional information |
Singapore's lunar series coins are struck by the Singapore Mint under mandate from the MAS, and the 2014 Snake issue appeared in the final year before the series design approach was substantially revised. The snake holds a specific place in the Chinese zodiac cycle as the sixth animal — associated in Singaporean Chinese tradition with wisdom and financial intuition, which gave this particular release stronger collector demand domestically than several adjacent years in the series.
