Singapore's Lunar New Year commemorative series has been issued annually since 2012, produced in coordination with the Singapore Mint. The Year of the Horse falls on a twelve-year cycle rooted in the Han dynasty's adoption of the duodecenary system, though the specific iconographic conventions used in Singapore's issues draw more directly from southern Chinese folk tradition than from classical sources.
The .999 fineness distinguishes this from Singapore's earlier lunar silver issues, which used .925.
