Additional information

The Labrador West Winter Games are a regional multi-sport competition drawing athletes from the iron ore mining communities around Wabush and Labrador City — towns that exist almost entirely because of the massive open-pit mines that began operating in the early 1960s. Local scrip and commemorative trade tokens of this kind were occasionally issued by organizing committees to circulate within event venues, functioning as a controlled currency for concessions and activities during the games weekend.
