Comments

The Tradesmen's Bank of Catskill never actually opened. It was one of dozens of New York institutions that obtained a charter during the early 1820s banking expansion but failed to meet capitalization requirements before the charter lapsed — leaving printed note stock with no issuing authority behind it. Whether this was intended as a speculative venture or simply collapsed before launch is not documented with certainty.

Peter Maverick, the engraver and printer, was a well-regarded New York plate engraver of the period. The "20th Century Reprints" designation indicates this example was struck from surviving original plates or facsimile plates long after 1823 — a common practice for collectors of obsolete American bank note material.
