Additional information

The "Taku" name references the Fijian word for the hawksbill turtle, a species whose regional population has been under CITES Appendix I protection since 1975. This series, produced by the New Zealand Mint on behalf of Fiji, ran across multiple years and became one of the more actively traded one-ounce silver bullion programs in the Pacific-issued market — secondary premiums routinely exceeded face value by a factor of thirty or more, rendering the two-dollar denomination purely nominal from the outset.
