| Obverse lettering | SILVER CERTIFICATE THIS CERTIFIES THAT THERE HAVE BEEN DEPOSITED IN THE TREASURY OF THE UNITED STATES TWO SILVER DOLLARS Payable to the bearer on demand, Washington, D.C. |
| Reverse description | The reverse is printed entirely in green intaglio and exhibits an elaborate, symmetrical lathe-work guilloche design filling the entire note. Two large numeral '2' counters appear at left and right within ornate engine-turned rosette surrounds, while the words 'TWO', 'DOLLARS', 'UNITED STATES' and 'SILVER CERTIFICATE' are interwoven diagonally through the intricate geometric latticework. The overall composition is dense with fine-line engraving, floral ornaments, and interlocking scrollwork characteristic of the large-format Treasury issues of the 1880s. |
