The SML fractional sets — Small, Medium, Large — were introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint as a collector-friendly entry point into the bullion market, packaging fractional silver pieces together rather than selling them individually. This 1/10 oz piece is the smallest denomination in that configuration. Elizabeth II died in September 2022, making 2023 issues bearing her effigy transitional pieces produced while the Mint worked through the formal recutting process required to introduce Charles III's portrait across the Canadian coinage program.
