| Reverse description | A polar bear strides across an arctic ice floe, facing right, rendered in high relief within a central concave disk finished with selective gold (.9999) plating, evoking the distinctive bimetallic appearance of the circulation toonie. The outer ring, struck in fine silver with a matte finish, carries the country name 'CANADA' arcing across the upper border and the denomination '2 DOLLARS' across the lower border in large serif capitals. The engraver's initials 'BT' appear in the lower right of the inner field. |

Canada's toonie design — originally introduced in 1996 — replaced the $2 note partly to reduce long-term currency production costs, a rationale the Bank of Canada has cited repeatedly. This 2023 collector issue is among the final pieces struck under Elizabeth II's effigy before the Royal Canadian Mint transitioned to Charles III across circulating and numismatic coinage following her death in September 2022, making it an inadvertent terminus piece for a 70-year reign on Canadian currency.
