Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, flanked by two bare-chested supporters — a mestizo figure to the left holding an axe over his shoulder and a creole figure to the right holding a paddle — each standing on a grassy base. The shield displays crossed woodcutting tools in the upper quarters and a sailing ship on water in the base, surmounted by a mahogany tree. A scroll at the base of the arms bears the motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO. The entire device is encircled by a wreath of olive branches, with the legend BELIZE arching across the upper field and the date 1998 positioned in the lower field, all within a beaded border.
