Obverse description The obverse features the coat of arms of the Republic of Palau centered within the field, depicting a traditional scene with a merman figure flanked by sea creatures on a shield, with the inscription 'RAINBOW'S END' on a scroll at the base of the shield. The Gorch Fock II is the German Navy's sail training ship, commissioned in 1958 and still active — one of the longest-serving vessels of its type in any modern fleet. Palau has issued numerous nautical-themed silver pieces under licensing arrangements that have made it one of the more prolific small-nation issuers of collector coinage since the 1990s.

The Kahle reference indicates this falls within a documented series, suggesting multiple Gorch Fock issues exist under the same cataloging framework.
