| Reverse description | The reverse presents a dramatic, deeply struck high-relief depiction of Zhao Yun, the celebrated general of the Three Kingdoms period, mounted on a rearing warhorse in full battle armor, wielding his iconic spear — the tip of which is selectively gold-plated — diagonally across the composition. The warrior is rendered with exceptional sculptural detail, including articulated lamellar armor, a feathered helmet, and a billowing cape, set against a background suggesting a fortified stronghold amid rocky terrain. To the left of the composition, a vertical inscription in Chinese characters identifies the subject, while a smaller cartouche bearing additional Chinese characters appears at the lower right. The antiqued silver finish enhances the dramatic three-dimensionality of the scene. |
