Viktor Tsoi led Kino, the Soviet rock group whose final album was recorded and released in 1990 — the same year Tsoi died in a car accident in Latvia at 28. The band dissolved immediately after. Within weeks of his death, a wall on Arbat Street in Moscow became a spontaneous memorial covered in tributes, and it remains maintained by fans to this day.
Niue's celebrity coin program, licensed through a New Zealand-based distributor, produced dozens of these issues from 2009 onward. Tsoi's inclusion reflects how seriously his cult status was taken in post-Soviet Russia — not a nostalgia play, but a genuine ongoing cultural presence twenty years after his death.
