Part of a Sherlock Holmes series issued by the Cook Islands in 2007, this coin commemorates "The Final Problem" — the 1893 Strand Magazine story in which Conan Doyle killed off Holmes at the Reichenbach Falls, intending to be rid of him permanently. Reader outcry was immediate and extraordinary; the Strand reportedly lost over 20,000 subscribers almost overnight. Doyle resurrected Holmes a decade later under considerable financial and public pressure.
