Obverse description The antiqued obverse features the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and wearing a pearl necklace, positioned in the upper field within a wide annular border. The central field is occupied by a prominent convex Perspex dome enclosing silver particles suspended in purified white mineral oil, evoking the mythological tears of the Inca moon goddess Mama Quilla. The surrounding border is decorated with a continuous ring of stylised flower rosette ornaments in relief. Inscriptions arranged around the border read '2 OZ', '9999', 'Ag', '2021', '2 DOLLARS', 'TUVALU', and 'QUEEN ELIZABETH II', with the denomination and issuer flanking the effigy at upper left and right respectively.

Additional information

The "Tears of the Moon" branding belongs to Perth Mint's long-running colored proof series exploiting the commercial appeal of ultra-high-purity four-nines silver — a step beyond the .999 fineness used by most sovereign mints. The 2021 release appeared during a period of sustained retail demand for Perth Mint collectibles in Asian markets, particularly China, where lunar-themed and celestially branded silver had driven a sharp uptick in subscription sales through the late 2010s.

The $2 face value is a legal denomination under Australian law, though no circulation was ever intended.
