| Obverse description | The obverse features the fifth and final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, sculpted by Susan Taylor, depicting the monarch at approximately 77 years of age with a bare head, wearing a necklace and earrings, facing right. The portrait is accompanied by a special memorial marking comprising the dual dates '1952' and '2022' flanking four pearls, each pearl symbolising one of the four successive royal effigies that appeared on Canadian coinage during Her Majesty's reign. The legend 'ELIZABETH II D•G•REGINA' arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '2 DOLLARS' appears in the lower field. This commemorative design serves as a tribute to the late sovereign following her passing in September 2022. |
