The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank issues collector coinage on behalf of its eight member territories — Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines — none of which maintain independent minting authority. This piece carries no single island's attribution, a deliberate arrangement that has defined ECCB numismatic policy since the currency union was formalized in 1983.
The American flamingo (*Phoenicopterus ruber*) is the only flamingo species native to the Caribbean, with significant wild populations in the region concentrated largely in the Bahamas and Cuba rather than the ECCB member states themselves.
