| Obverse description | The oval-shaped obverse features an elaborate high-relief design evoking the decorative splendor of a Fabergé egg. At center, a sunburst-framed medallion contains the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and draped, after the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait, with the legend ELIZABETH II below. Flanking the royal portrait are richly detailed acanthus and rococo scroll ornaments, with a decorative basket of flowers rendered in fine relief occupying the lower central field. The legend NIUE ISLAND arcs along the upper border, while 2 DOLLARS appears vertically along the left edge and the date 2011 along the right edge; the fineness mark Ag 925 appears in the lower right field. |
