Paavo Nurmi won nine Olympic gold medals between 1920 and 1928, a record in track and field that stood for decades. Finland issued its own commemoratives honoring him repeatedly, but this Niue piece belongs to a category of Pacific island gold coinage that exists almost entirely for the bullion collectibles market — Niue's GDP would not otherwise explain a prolific gold minting program.
