Additional information

The polar bear toonie — Canada's bimetallic $2 coin introduced in 1996 — inspired a series of oversized silver collector strikes that replicate the circulating design at dramatically enlarged scale. This 2018 issue is among the heavier entries in that series, struck in five-nines-equivalent fine silver at a size that makes the circulating coin's two-centimetre diameter look almost absurd by comparison. Royal Canadian Mint collector issues of this type are typically produced in modest quantities with hard mintage ceilings, though RCM has never published unified sales data across the full polar bear kilo and jumbo series.
