Obverse description The aluminium bronze centre features the fourth effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, a diademed and draped bust facing right, modelled by engraver Dora de Pédery-Hunt. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a plain field, with fine detail in the crown, hair, and pearl necklace. The surrounding nickel ring bears the legend ELIZABETH II to the left and D·G· REGINA to the right, with a small maple leaf privy mark positioned at the top. The date 1999 appears in the lower portion of the ring. This obverse die is notably paired with the Nunavut commemorative reverse, constituting the mule variety.
