Additional information

Lord Kitchener's connection to the Eastern Caribbean is tenuous at best — this is a commemorative issue capitalizing on a broadly marketed British imperial nostalgia series rather than any meaningful regional history. Kitchener was born in Ireland, built his reputation in Sudan and South Africa, and died when HMS Hampshire struck a German mine off Orkney in 1916.

The gold-plated copper-nickel format was ubiquitous in early 2000s commemorative programs targeting collector markets rather than circulation.
