Additional information

Barbados gained independence from Britain in November 1966, but the Central Bank wasn't established until 1972, and the first national coin series — replacing the Eastern Caribbean Currency Authority issues — didn't reach circulation until 1973. This 1976 piece belongs to that founding series, designed by Philip Nathan, whose flying fish reverse for the one-cent became one of the most recognized coin designs in the Caribbean.
