Tuvalu's licensing arrangements with major entertainment properties accelerated sharply in the early 2000s, when the island nation's coin program became essentially a vehicle for collectible issues bearing no relationship to Tuvaluan history or economy. This piece was struck the year after the third Harry Potter film release, timed to the peak of franchise merchandising. The Royal Australian Mint produced the majority of Tuvalu's silver commemoratives during this period under contract.
